The task of the adjudication committee is to ensure an orderly process for conflict resolution. The committee can hear parties in a conflict, consult other members, and issue a binding ruling. Hopefully, it will not need to come in action more than once or twice a year. It will set its own rules and procedures, which may be fairly informal, but should aim for the following: Any IOPS member may bring a case, whether they are personally involved in the presumed conflict or not. Committee members who…

I've just joined this, I read the pre-amble, I was excited and then..........tumbleweed. It would appear nothing has happened on here for years. Like a hamburger displayed on the entrance to a drive-through, this deifinitly flattered to decieve. This ironically mirrors the plight of the left in NZ. So what happened? What went wrong? Why didn't this work?

Those who visit ZNet will notice an overlay introducing yet another Albert Emancipatory Project whose format is eerily familiar. First there is the Manifesto explaining broad goals. Then there is The List of Signatorees, distinguished (ie. people who have published) names of The Left. This latest exercise is called We Stand and the program and names on the list will be familiar to anyone here on the IOPS site, or anyone who joined Zschool, or any of the other projects ( a blur to me but I know there…

(Rational preamble. It's always harder navigating the labyrinth inside than out. Outside you usually spend most of the time apologising and getting  out of people's way)   It's a shit fight out there. Cynicism is always the fallback of the cool and aloof. The working class rock star doing his bit at the soup kitchen or playing pool and drinking with the locals at the local into the evening and beyond. The silent lonely corner is the best place for Anonymous with shit social skills or who just…

The task of the content curators is to ensure that the website is a place where members and sympathizers can find material that is interesting and relevant. More concretely, the team's primary task is twofold, as outlined in the proposal for the team: To ensure that the website's home page gives an appropriately playful and lively impression and is regularly updated with fresh content. To start building up a repository of relevant content on various topics and issues. Obviously, the team can only…

Castro & the Police State Left Fidel Castro has died. His enemies and his sympathizers are framing their predictable responses. I am addressing the latter. I have read many glowing eulogies from the Left in the last few days, some hagiographic, some more carefully worded, but all quite problematic in what they say, imply, and more especially, in what they do not say about ‘Fidel’ and the Cuban system. I come not to demonise nor to idolize. He was not my friend or comrade, and just…

Two Men & Two Words.   In this winter month of dying light that waits to be reborn. Two words, that are also names, embodied and lived by two men, have appeared on our world's conscious stage 'trump' and 'Fidel', and as poor Earth, our only eden sails like the Titanic into an environmental collision, full of drowning refugees who exodus in desperate hope from the consequence of an elsewhere power's blind pretenses & profit. As we all compete in the indignity of nations, to lower our…

Eating Our Own Dogfood

In the software industry, “eating your own dogfood” is an expression for a practice in which the people in a company themselves use the products they make and sell. It is a good way for them to discover usability problems that you only notice when you actually use a product instead of merely testing it with some standard tests.  In movements on the revolutionary left there is a notion that the movement should prefigure the society aimed at. If that society is to be inclusive, democratic,…

IT'S NOT  AS IF..."Not only has the Liberal Class given us Fascism, they’re now normalizing it."Vincent Emanuele said this. It's as if it's not the norm. I mean Sheldon Wolin wrote about this a while back as did Alex Carey. It's not  as if the Creel Committee at the start of the twentieth century was about democracy. It was about manipulation. It's not as if  the title of Alex Carey's book, Taking The Risk Out Of Democracy isn't a dead give away and that Herman and Chomsky's…
