Towards Police State Australia in the Post-Liberal Era At least since 9/11 almost all western countries have been involved in a gradual slide to post-liberal, more authoritarian states. Some are gradually becoming outright police states. Australia is no exception, and is in fact in the vanguard of these developments in many respects.   Australia is the only democracy without a national Bill of Rights. This is also because there is almost no grassroots revolutionary tradition of autonomy in…

The idea of creating a wiki for IOPS has come up several times in the past and has already resulted in an IOPS Examples Wiki. This blog is the latest attempt to get a wiki going. If you'd like to participate, please leave a comment. The rationale behind building a wiki is that IOPS (and activists in general) need knowledge resources to be able to effectively do their work. A wiki could be ideal for that purpose because:- it requires only moderate technical skills- it supports easy restructuring and…

Hi all- I thought it might be nice to do another check in. This time about how everything is going but I am also wondering if our australian comrades want to tell us how its going down there with the heat and things. Other situations obviously also welcome. And please forgive the propaganda picture- I forgot it had a logo til I loaded it!

Principles: The history of the white working class is one full of resistance, collectively and individually, against the rich elite that hold power over all of our lives. From massive armed uprisings like the Battle of Blair Mountain in 1921, to the resistance to coal mining in predominately white rural Appalachia today, white working people have been in conflict with those that uphold predatory economic, political, and social systems. The history of the white working class is also one filled with…

[Trying a bigger pic here. Anyone into the Anthropocene? ] Ten Propositions on the Anthropocene Choice for Humanity 1.We are now in the ANTHROPOCENE: a new evolutionary phase of the planet since about 1950 defined primarily by one species, Homo sapiens, largely determining planetary evolution 2.Like all previous evolution, the Anthropocene is proceeding blindly, UNCONSCIOUSLY, mainly  via market mechanisms and the self-serving, narrow-focus decisions of technocratic and power elites 3.The Unconscious…

Deplorable.   Mrs Clinton cast too widely, be it a basket or a net. However her general sentiment was right. The election of Trump was the latest entry to the list of American deplorables, following from Iraq, Reaganomics, Vietnam, Jim Crow, slavery, the genocide of indigenous people--to name just a few whoppers.   But while past deplorables were typically enacted by agents of the state, Trump's election is a failure of the people. (And it is pointless to complain, at this stage, about…

The other day the Doomsday Clock, a symbolic presentation of how close we are to the end of humanity, was forwarded by half a minute. The immediate reason was the election of the Trumpinator, in view of his stated policy intentions to stop fighting climate change and escalate nuclear armament.Once H. sapiens has gone extinct, no one will be left to shed a tear for its demise. Sad. But a worse future is possible – and, in my opinion, more likely – in which humankind does not end but the…

I would like to hear from people about how they are feeling; how your week went, what gave you joy, what made you anxious- what you do to stay human in these challenging times. Do you have a specific practice, a creative outlet or a nurturing community that renews your spirit, keeps you in the game? Knowing a blog post is not the greatest medium, I still would like to hear from those who are comfortable writing about their thoughts and feelings. I'll start it out.... I had a great week (despite…
