I co-wrote the following piece with iops member Fred Curran. It is the latest article we have written for our media collective Anarchimedia. I wanted to share it with you all in the hope that it might resonate with some of you and we want to know what you think. We also would love to have more contributing writers, so if any of you have a piece of writing you would like to share with us, please send it our way. You can contact me in the comments below, on the website, or email us at anarchimedia@riseup.net…

Politics of Rupture      We start with ecological crisis; both its current unfolding and its immanently exponential threat. Things are bad but we know soon, barring what the IPCC refers to as “rapid, far reaching and unprecedented changes”, they will grow worse, much worse. “Rapid” also describes the rate at which each passing moment diminishes available options. It is this tragic reality which conditions any possibility for change or maneuver. Therefore, we…

The Pallet House by I. Z. Nessuno-Raskolnikov  We all love green stuff; right? Another story about stuff; Human stuff. I need more space for my stuff; space for more relics and antiques; space for stuff to member: "Ohh.. I member dat stuff!"; Memorabilia and shrines; decadent western lifestyles. I want less space; I have less stuff; got rid of stuff. I am a fugee; All I need is a clever, tiny space to live happily ever after. A little wooden shed outside the ghetto; solar powered stuff. Ohh..…

Hiya, I relatively recently submitted this to an essay writing contest on global warming, and thought I'd share my entry here. It's short, and I tried to incorporate a bunch of ideas and tendencies I align with, like libertarian municpalism, Peak Oil, animal liberation, etc.Mainstream discourse over global warming, and climate change more broadly, has largely remained on the surface, doing little but set back minimally the pace of its threats to everyone’s well-being and the continuation…

Why we should go on with IOPS

As anyone can see, IOPS is not doing well. Although new members keep coming in, the activity level here is close to absolute zero. So a natural question is, Why bother? Why not simply admit that IOPS is a failure and give up?  The essence of my argument for not giving up is that “something like IOPS” is needed, and that there is currently no alternative. I do not feel a particular loyalty to IOPS as an organization, and if I see a better alternative I’ll be happy to jump ship,…

[Trying a bigger pic here. Anyone into the Anthropocene? ] Ten Propositions on the Anthropocene Choice for Humanity 1.We are now in the ANTHROPOCENE: a new evolutionary phase of the planet since about 1950 defined primarily by one species, Homo sapiens, largely determining planetary evolution 2.Like all previous evolution, the Anthropocene is proceeding blindly, UNCONSCIOUSLY, mainly  via market mechanisms and the self-serving, narrow-focus decisions of technocratic and power elites 3.The Unconscious…

The other day the Doomsday Clock, a symbolic presentation of how close we are to the end of humanity, was forwarded by half a minute. The immediate reason was the election of the Trumpinator, in view of his stated policy intentions to stop fighting climate change and escalate nuclear armament.Once H. sapiens has gone extinct, no one will be left to shed a tear for its demise. Sad. But a worse future is possible – and, in my opinion, more likely – in which humankind does not end but the…
