Hiya, I relatively recently submitted this to an essay writing contest on global warming, and thought I'd share my entry here. It's short, and I tried to incorporate a bunch of ideas and tendencies I align with, like libertarian municpalism, Peak Oil, animal liberation, etc.Mainstream discourse over global warming, and climate change more broadly, has largely remained on the surface, doing little but set back minimally the pace of its threats to everyone’s well-being and the continuation…

hey IOPS! some random ass content for ya... this is a clip of some video i took in June 2017 at an anti-Sharia rally out front Seattle City Hall. counter protests were also planned and executed in much greater numbers, waving signs and creating intentional noise to drown out the anti-Sharia speakers. some related violent exchanges took place in a nearby area a couple hours after dispersal, which is not a part of this clip. none of the people in this video were official speakers. at least…

Looking back, how did that work out?  I have to say, not well. The results are, frankly, very disappointing. A system by which members can contribute their membership dues is still not in place. Even more disheartening: the content curators did not generate or facilitate any new content. In general, activity on the website dropped…

As anyone can see, IOPS is not doing well. Although new members keep coming in, the activity level here is close to absolute zero. So a natural question is, Why bother? Why not simply admit that IOPS is a failure and give up?  The essence of my argument for not giving up is that “something like IOPS” is needed, and that there is currently no alternative. I do not feel a particular loyalty to IOPS as an organization, and if I see a better alternative I’ll be happy to jump ship,…

Climate Crisis and Managed Deindustrialization: Debating Alternatives to Ecological Collapse       Richard Smith, Common Dreams, Nov 21 2017 - 10:00 On Monday November 13th, climate scientists from the Tyndal center for Climate Change Research at the University of East Anglia presented their carbon emissions research to the UN climate negotiators at Bonn Germany. The data were shocking: After three years in which human-caused emissions appeared to be leveling off,…
